Sweetgum Press was established in 2001 to promote writers from Missouri and the surrounding Midwest. The editors are particularly interested in work about the Crowley's Ridge and Bootheel areas of Missouri. Their goal is to publish a title a year, but in practice they have published a title about every eighteen months. They look for manuscripts that are unlikely to attract mainstream publishers but are worthy of publication because of one or more qualities, among them originality, authenticity, beauty, regional or historical appeal.

Writers who feel Sweetgum might be an appropriate match for their goals and for their manuscript should follow the guidelines for submission. Please do not submit synopses and sample chapters by email unless asked to do so.
